Anyone EVER repack their REAR wheel bearings? | IH8MUD Forum
I replaced mine shortly after purchase (~110K or so) original Toyota grease OEM/Koyo bearings, the grease around the bearings was completely blackened, the filler in the hub was kind of thicker than I would think it should be but color was good (beer color) the bearings were somewhat worn with a brushed look on the rollers and races, they could have been repacked reused but I had bought new.

Start with the driver side, grasp the left front wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock, and push/pull, do the same at 6 and 12, feeling for looseness, should be solid, now try to raise the wheel assembly up with a 5' pry bar, hang on to the top of the strut feeling for noise.. they had it in stock so I looked at it and the bearing had KOYO engraved on it.

I'm in the Bearing PT business I know exactly what NTN, Koyo, SKF, FAG, INA, Timken, ETC all have to offer. But if he is engineering it and it allows why not add an extra single lip seal to each side just like the factory one had for a bit of insurance? I under stand cost and cost savings as well as the ease of replacing the bearing.
